Hyundai Launches All-New Grandeur in Korea

The Grandeur, Hyundai's top-selling premium large sedan, returns with new safety and convenience features and sharper, more graceful styling.

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest automaker, rolled out the all-new Grandeur (badged as Azera in some markets) today at a ceremony in Seoul, attended by some 300 VIPs, including Hyundai Motor President Steve S. Yang, and media members.

The all-new Grandeur arrives in the Korean market six years after its predecessor's (code named TG) launch in May 2005. The Grandeur is unrivaled as Korea's No. 1 large sedan, with cumulative sales of 1.25 million units (domestic: 980,000, exports: 270,000) since the first generation launched in 1986. (more…)

Los Angeles — Hyundai today introduced its all-new 2011 Sonata at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This marks the North American debut of the latest version of the popular midsize sedan, introducing Hyundai's “Fluidic Sculpture” design language and an all four-cylinder engine lineup to the U.S. market.

Sonata is the second vehicle in Hyundai's 24/7 version 2.0 product initiative (seven new models in the next 24 months) following on the heels of the all-new Tucson. Production of Sonata will begin later this month at Hyundai's U.S. plant in Alabama with retail sales beginning in January. (more…)

All-New Sporty and Dynamic Kia Cadenza Makes its Debut

Seoul — The all-new Kia Cadenza luxury sporty sedan revealed in Korea today (where it is called the K7), will be a ‘big step into the future’ for Kia when it goes on worldwide sale next year. New Cadenza will make its overseas world premiere at next month's Riyadh Motor Show in Saudi Arabia on 12 December, followed immediately by an appearance at the Dubai Motor Show on 15 December.

The Cadenza name is derived from an Italian musical term used to describe an elaborate, ornamental flourish for a concerto or aria. (more…)

Hyundai Develops its First Gasoline Direct Injection Engine

Namyang, Korea — To help meet its goals of environmental leadership, Hyundai Motor Company today unveiled the 2.4 Theta II GDI, its first Gasoline Direct Injection engine before an audience of engineers attending the Ninth Annual Hyundai-Kia International Powertrain Conference.

Representing the biggest advancement in fuel injection, an '80s technology that replaced the carburetor, GDI puts Hyundai at the cutting edge of engine design and management by achieving three seemly incompatible goals: GDI lowers emissions while raising power output and improving fuel economy. Prior to GDI, a gain in one area came at the expense of the other two. (more…)

New Buick Crossover Will Feature Plug-In Hybrid System

Traverse City, MI — General Motors' plug-in hybrid technology will be introduced in a new Buick crossover vehicle in 2011, Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman of product development, announced here today during the Management Briefing Seminars.

The yet-to-be-named Buick crossover will launch in late 2010 offering a family of fuel-efficient direct-injected gasoline engines, followed in 2011 by the plug-in hybrid model.

“Buick has always been at the forefront of new technology, so it is only fitting that the brand should debut our new plug-in hybrid technology in a beautiful new crossover,” said Stephens. (more…)
