Seoul — Kia Motors Corporation has released the first official photos of the next generation Picanto city car, which now offers a bolder, more mature and more self confident look.

Completely redesigned and re-engineered, the new car has grown in overall length and wheelbase and is set to redefine its position as one of the most competitive vehicles in its segment.

Kia's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, said, “In profile, new Picanto features significant sculpting and a very prominent rising character line. The result is a layering of light and shadow and this breaks up the height, giving the car a more sure-footed stance.” (more…)

Scion Reveals Hako Coupe Concept At The 2008 New York International Auto Show

New York — Scion unveiled its Hako Coupe Concept vehicle at a press conference today at the New York International Auto Show.

Scion's Hako Coupe was developed by Tokyo Design Division, which studied global, youth-inspired trends. Japanese and American youth cultures often influence each other and are interpreted with a unique twist. The Hako Coupe Concept was inspired by the iconic xB and the emergence of American vintage style among young Tokyo trendsetters.

GM Daewoo Damas and Labo Mini-Commercial

Seoul — GM Daewoo Auto and Technology (GM Daewoo) announced today that it would resume regular production of the Damas and Labo mini-commercial vehicles on April 1. The two models are powered by a new Liquefied Petroleum Gas Injection (LPGi) engine that meets the latest Korean Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (KULEV) standard.

“Since their production ceased last January, GM Daewoo has been working vigorously to bring these unique models back to the market. They will fulfill demand in a segment in which no other automakers participate,” said Rick LaBelle, GM Daewoo Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “The new Damas and Labo are more environmentally friendly. In addition to meeting Korea's stringent new emission standard, they offer better fuel economy and improved performance.” (more…)

Fiat Previews Simba 4×4 Concept

Fiat Auto will preview a new subcompact with the Simba 4×4 concept at the Bologna Motor Show next month. The tall 5-door hatch was expected to replace both the Panda and the Seicento, but is considerably larger than both. At an overall length of 3680 mm (145″), a width of 1630 mm (64″) and an exaggerated height of 1730 mm (68″) it is nearly 11 inches longer than the Panda 4×4 and 14 inches longer than the Seicento. The new model has been seen on test in southern Spain without the concept's off-road modifications (photos published by Belgian AutoMagazine in October) and is expected to debut next September.
