LONDON MOTOR SHOW — Mexican Mastretta targets UK with Lotus rival

Mexico has a massive automotive sector — but there have been few indigenous Mexican brands. Brothers Daniel and Carlos Mastretta mean to change that — and the car that bears their family name was one of the stars of the London Show.

Daniel Mastretta says the Mastretta MXT is the first car ever to be designed and built in Mexico, and the brothers believe the sporty two-seater will be a strong rival to lightweight sports cars such as the Lotus Elise and Exige. And the UK will be the launch market for the car.

Low Emission Honda Roadster Breaks Cover

Honda's low-emission sportscar study model has been revealed at the British International Motor Show, at ExCel, London.

The lightweight roadster design study is a concept showing Honda's core engineering principals, designing stylish and exciting cars that are also environmentally responsible.

Named the OSM (for Open Study Model), the two-seater joins the confirmed-for-production CR-Z sports hybrid and FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car on the Honda stand at the show.

London — As workers hauled a 4.7 meter-diameter orb from Potters Fields Park, a massive object fell 45 meters in six seconds and was caught at the last minute, revealing an intact car never seen before by the public — the Opel Insignia.

More than 300 invited guests were on hand to watch the new car plunge from the orb as it was suspended in the air. “We are very proud of the Insignia and decided that an extraordinary car needed an extraordinary entrance. Eagerly anticipated and making its official global debut at the British Motorshow in London on July 22nd, the first all-new car from Lotus since the iconic Elise in 1995, will enter the sportscar market as the only mid-engined 2+2 in production.
