China Changan Automobile Group and PSA Peugeot Citroën Sign Contract for Automotive Joint Venture in China

Xu Bin, President of China South Industries Group Corporation, Changan's main shareholder, and Philippe Varin, Chairman of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Managing Board, have signed a contract to create an equally owned joint venture. The contract was signed on July 9 in Paris at a ceremony attended by Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Bernard Accoyer, President of the National Assembly of France and Gao Hucheng, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China

Pooling the expertise of two industry leaders, one Chinese and the other European, the joint venture will produce and market light commercial vehicles and passenger car line-ups in China. The partners will initially focus on introducing the Citroën DS line in China and launching a dedicated new brand for the venture. (more…)

GM Signs MOU for Small Vehicle Production in Uzbekistan

Seoul — Representatives from General Motors Company and UzAvtoSanoat of Uzbekistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today in Seoul for their GM-Uzbekistan joint venture to launch the production of a new small vehicle mainly destined for emerging markets.

The MOU was signed by GM Daewoo Vice President of Product Planning & Program Management Dwenell Mills and UzAvtoSanoat Vice Chairman Shukhrat Yusupov in the presence of GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone and Republic of Uzbekistan First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Azimov. (more…)

Fisker Automotive to Buy U.S. Assembly Plant to Build Affordable Plug-in Hybrid Cars

Wilmington, DE — Fisker Automotive has selected the Wilmington Assembly plant in Wilmington Delaware to build affordable plug-in hybrid cars.

Fisker executives made the announcement inside the dormant facility today, joined by Vice President Joe Biden, Delaware Governor Jack Markell and other state officials.

The plant will support Fisker Automotive's Project NINA, the development and build of an affordable, family-oriented plug-in hybrid sedan costing about $39,900 after federal tax credits.

Production is scheduled to begin in late 2012. Fisker Automotive anticipates Project NINA will ultimately create or support 2,000 factory jobs and more than 3,000 vendor and supplier jobs by 2014, as production ramps up to full capacity of 75,000–100,000 vehicles per year. More than half will be exported, the largest percentage of any domestic manufacturer. (more…)

Dodge Viper SRT10 Will Live On

Auburn Hills, MI — Chrysler Group LLC announced today that production will continue for the legendary Dodge Viper SRT10.

Originally slated to cease production in December 2009, the Chrysler Group Conner Avenue Assembly Plant — the exclusive home of Dodge Viper production since 1995 — will continue to build the V-10 powered sports car. Chrysler Group is no longer pursuing a sale of the Viper business assets.

Antonov Signs Joint Venture Agreement with Landai

The Company is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of negotiations to secure a partner for its manufacturing joint venture (“JV”) in China with the signing of an agreement to form a Joint Venture with Chong Qing Landai Industries Co., Ltd. (“Landai”).

Under the terms of the agreement the JV will develop Antonov's 6-speed automatic transmission (“TX-6”) for start of production, planned to begin during the course of 2011. The TX-6 will be manufactured in the JV's facilities, which will provide capacity for a minimum 200,000 transmissions per year. The manufacturing plant will be established at Landai's new site in Chong Qing, reducing the level of investment originally anticipated. Consequently, additional funding will be available to focus on accelerating the development program to achieve production at the earliest possible date. (more…)
